Winding single-molecule double-stranded DNA on a nanometer-sized reel
A molecular system of a nanometer-sized reel was developed from F(1)-ATPase, a rotary motor protein. By combination with magnetic tweezers and optical tweezers, single-molecule double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) was wound around the molecular reel. The bending stiffness of dsDNA was determined from the winding tension (0.9-6.0 pN) and the diameter of the wound loop (21.4-8.5 nm). Our results were in g...
متن کاملDevelopments in Reel-to-Reel Electron Microscopy Infrastructure
An increasing need for structural imaging at small length scales and simultaneous demand for data from larger volumes in research and commercial applications such as gene sequencing, neuroanatomy, and industrial process monitoring has encouraged new developments in electron microscopy (EM) technology, in particular high throughput tools. We previously reported on construction of a new serial sa...
متن کاملA First Implementation of an Automated Reel-to-Reel Fluidic Self-Assembly Machine
A first automated reel-to-reel fluidic selfassembly process for macroelectronic applications is reported. This system enables high-speed assembly of semiconductor dies (15 000 chips per hour using a 2.5 cm-wide web) over large-area substrates. The optimization of the system (>99% assembly yield) is based on identification, calculation, and optimization of the relevant forces. As an application,...
متن کاملReel-to-Reel Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) Plasma Treatment of Polypropylene Films
Atmospheric pressure plasma treatment of the surface of a polypropylene film can significantly increase its surface energy and, thereby improve the printability of the film. A laboratory-scale dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) system has therefore been developed, which simulates the electrode configuration and reel-to-reel web transport mechanism used in a typical industrial-scale system. By t...
متن کاملReel-to-reel Texture Analysis of Hts Coated Conductors Using a Modified Gadds System
High temperature superconducting (HTS) materials need a high degree of texture over kilometerlong lengths in order to carry the maximum amount of supercurrent for electric power industry applications. One way to achieve the high degree of texture is with the coated conductor architecture. The coated conductor is comprised of the HTS layer epitaxially grown on a textured oxide buffer layer on a ...
